FS8600 and VMWare 6
Hi,
We have a FS8600 NAS and we are attempting to set up a VMWare 6 environment using it as the underlying storage. The server doesn't seem to recognize it as capable of hardware acceleration (see attached screenshot).
My understanding is that we need to install the VAAI plugin, which is supposed to be available on the administrative FTP site on the FS8600. However, the only plugin is for ESX 5.5 and doesn't seem to work in our VMWare 6 environment.
Is there a VMWare 6 plugin? If so, how can I get it? If not, is there something else we're supposed to be doing to enable hardware acceleration?

How to expand existing volume size of Dell Compellent Series 4 ??
Hi,
We have a old Dell Compellent Series 40. I never worked on it before.
Is there any way to increase the existing volume size without going off line of the volume, please ?
We created a 500GB volume and mounted it to a server, Several Replays are taken as policy applied. The volume usage is around 30% when we see it in server end, but in the storage end it looks almost full, so remaing space is very low!!
As there are having Replays policy, I am in confusion to understand the space usage of the volume with the indications through "Configured Space". "Free Space", "Total Disk Space", "Actual Space". "Replay Space" ???

Compellent SCv2080 Admin password
Anyone reset the Admin password of a Storage Center SCv2080 ??
I did a initialize of a brand new SCv2080 including set of a Admin password.
After I setup a Storage Manager and try to attach the new Storage Center it is not accepting my Admin password for some reason.
I'm almost 100% sure I type the correct password.
to be 100% sure I would like to reset the Admin password or even set all to factory default settings of the complete Storage Center as there is not yet any data written to it at all.
All help is appreciated.

Compellent SC4020 Size Question

I've hopefully a very simple question that someone will be able to answer quickly, but it's been niggling at me for a while and, even after attending a week's course on the storage center, I still can't figure it out.
In Enterprise Manager, on the Storage tab for one of our SC4020s when it is selected in the tree, there are a few space values reported. I understand (or at least I think I understand) what all of these values are referring to, except for one - "Allocated Space". I first thought that this was the total of the configured volumes on the device, but it's not - it's less. For example, the device has a total Available Space of 12.55TB. It's over-provisioned in that the total configured space for all of the volumes comes to 15.2TB, which is fine. However, this Allocated Space figure is 8.95TB, which doesn't seem to relate to anything - and as far as I can see, this is the only place that that figure is actually reported.
Can anyone shed any light as to what this figure is / means?

Replication always with remaining data
Hi. My SC8000 is configured with async replication to SC4000 through a 1Gb link. I have started testing and have only configured replication of 2 volumes, 1 TB and 2TB. Every morning there is 400-500GB under "Amount remainig", but "Async behind" is 0. Can anybody explain this to me?

SC to PS replication - Promoting to volume?
We just purchased an SC4020 SSD array and are replicating to a PS4100 group at our DR site. I've found numerous articles and videos about replicating from a PS to SC, but nothing about SC to PS. My question concerned promoting a replica on the PS to a volume. It appears the only way to do this is by Cloning. Is there a way to do this similar to the "promote to volume" options when doing a PS to PS replication?

SC4020 and SCOS 7
I'm sure nobody has a good answer but i'm going to ask anyway because the best I can find is Soon. Does anyone know when SCOS 7 will be released for the SC4020, even roughly like month or *** even quarter? We have been waiting forever for some of the features (mainly Dedupe and VVOL)

SCv2020 SSD Write Latency
Hi All
We have recently added an SCv2020, with 16 x 1.92TB SSDs into our existing EQL environment. An VM I move, while it sees much lower read latency, is seeing higher write latency than before.
Its marginal I grant you, however the unit is only doing about 400 IOPS in total, with maybe 6/7 VMs on there. I have tried with and without the write cache, after reading a few threads on here, but it still seems very spiky, even under low IO.
Has anyone seen anything similar?

found the following alert in my compellent:
Required connection to peer controller enclosure not found on SAS port (WWN=5000D310034AC01B, Slot=2, Port=2)
As side-effect, some of the virtual machines with disks on it were found in read-only filesystem.
What is happening?

Setup FS8600 network
Is there anyone out there that can help me out how to setup a brand new FS8600??
My biggest question is how to attach the FS8600 to the network.
or with the maintenance port or with the Fiber interfaces.
i can login directly via VGA console with cli, but after that no glu what or how to setup the thing.
also no help from dell on any website.
first i need to have it on the network before i can add it to the Dell Storage Manager.
every help is apprciated.

LDAP/Kerberos/ManagedServiceAccount Authentication for ReplayManager/StorageCenter Command Set
I am developing a database architecture that uses replay manager and storage center replays. In the Replay Manager Admin guide and Storage Center Command Set documentation, I see that Get-SCConnection and Add-RMSystemSettings require a username and password.
With regard to the Replay Manager, I assume it would be a good practice to periodically change the password of the account that can connect to the Storage Center. This would get quite cumbersome as the number of servers using replay manager increases. Yes, I know I can use powershell to update the passwords, but I feel this is not ideal. It would be nice if the account running the replay manager service could directly authenticate to the compellent controller -- or even better if it could delegate the replay manager users' kerberos credentials for a better audit trail. Is this a possibility, or being considered in a future release?
With regard to Storage Center, it seems any powershell commands would need to read stored credentials from a file in order to run without operator interaction. Again, this would get quite cumbersome as the number of servers increases. Yes, I know I can use powershell to distribute the updated credential files, but again I feel this is not ideal. It would be nice if the account executing the powershell commands could directly authenticate to the compellent controller. Is this a possibility, or being considered in a future release?

Link speed under QOS node tab in Replication section
Hi all,
As per our conversation with Dell for a few months ago, they mentioned that if QOS node for wan replication is setup to maximum 1Mbps, therefore the actual is only half from the setup. In other words, I would obtain 500Kbps only. Is is true? The second question is, why the link speed shows 1.54 Mbps since the QOS node is setup at 1Mbps? The last question is how do I know the link speed of wan replication 1Mbps if I wanna change it? As you can see, the current speed now is 1.54 Mbps. The link speed is depend on what? Can you please tell me how to do it?

Read only user to view Alert Monitor and System Log
Hi all,
I am trying to set up a read only user to allow for monitoring of the Alert Monitor and System Log in my Compellent GUI. If I make them a reporter, it would seem that they do not have access to the Alert Monitor and the System Log, and if I make them an administrator, they will have access to the Alert Monitor and the System Log, but will have far more rights than I would like them to have.
Thoughts?

Dell Storage Manager 2016 R2 not able to connect to PS group
I recently upgraded our Data Collector and Enterprise Manager Client to Dell Storage Manager 2016 R2 [Build: 16.2.1.228]. With this new version, Dell added the ability to connect to Equallogic PS series arrays, so long as they are on the right firmware.
I have two PS arrays that I want to add to Storage Manager. The first one is a PS4110 array in our M1000E chassis. I was able to add that PS group to Storage Manager. But when I try to add the PS6210X, I get an error that says "unable to add PS Group". No other information is provided. Both arrays are on the same firmware version 7.17. I can ping the problem array from the server that runs the data collector. If Java was installed, I could even access the web gui of that array using IE. Both of those arrays management IP's are on the same subnet.
What am I missing?
